Botanical Bodies revisits the music of Hildegard von Bingen in a bold and contemporary encounter. This 12th century abbess, visionary, healer, botanist, feminist and composer created fascinating works of vocal music while being tormented by migraines. Her visions and bodily sufferings were considered to be at the source of her heavenly inspirations and for this reason, the abbess is a key figure in the doctoral research on migraine music, by singer Mariske Broeckmeyer. Together with violinist, singer Hendrike Scharmann, they bring together a group of musicians with the same fascination for the uncanny in a performance that reinterprets Von Bingen's music through an electroacoustic set-up and free improvisation.

Mariske Broeckmeyer - Vocals, Synths
Hendrike Scharmann - Vocals, Violin, Oud
Vitja Pauwels - Guitar, Electronics
Simon Plancke - Drums
